Umbridge’s Office, 5:00pm
‘Good evening.’ Umbridge smiled sweetly as you peer in through the door; Harry was right, she had indeed ‘redecorated’ quite dramatically. You didn’t really smile at Umbridge as you entered - it was a sort of wince, really. You really had little patience for her, after the display she’d put on in the first class of term.
‘I don’t really think this is necessary.’ You said, defiantly. Umbridge tilted her head and pouted. There was something about her confidence that really unnerved you.
‘What a shame,’ she gestured to the chair in front of her desk, ‘sit.’
‘Not a dog ... ‘ You muttered under your breath.
‘I’d just like to ask you a few questions, please, just as I have with your other classmates. I have reason to believe, Miss, that you were rather closely aquatinted with a certain,’ she paused, pursing her lips as if concealing a smile, ‘half-breed professor. Is this true?’ She tilted her head again. You scowled.
‘No.’ You said simply. You weren’t going to give her the satisfaction of watching you struggle to explain. One word answers now, you thought.
‘Really?’ She pressed, learning forward, looking almost sympathetic.
‘Yes.’
‘Oh dear.’ She tutted, writing something down. You attempted to peer over the desk to have a look, but didn’t want to look to fussed about what she was doing, so moved back.
‘Am I also right in saying, that you, Miss, are of the opinion that Sirius Black is innocent?’ You gulped, feeling your cheeks heat up. You really couldn’t give anything away about Sirius, not with the Order so often in contact and rather vulnerable at the moment.
‘Well, uh - yes.’
‘Pity,’ she wrote something else down, scribbling another thing out.
‘And, your mother’s name?’ You now froze.
‘W-well I don’t really see how that’s relevant.’
‘Yes,’ she whispered, quietly and lightly, ‘it is.’
‘Andromeda Tonks.’ You said. Umbridge furrowed her eyebrows, faking confusion.
‘Andromeda Black.’ She said, as if correcting you.
‘Tonks.’ You said loudly, gritting your teeth. Umbridge shook her toad-like head lightly, and gave you a sickly sweet smile. She leant in closer, keeping your eye.
‘Family is, after all, who we are,’ she said slowly, ‘family is the gift that lasts forever.’ She proudly closed her eyes at her words, and sighed contentedly. Your heart was hammering; you were worried you’d either shout or cry. One thing you knew you were going to do however, was write to Sirius.
