Christmas in the Great Hall at Hogwarts

At last! Exams are finished, your end of term assignments turned in, and you have nothing to worry about but the promise of a blizzard overnight. It's Christmas at Hogwarts, and this year, due in large part to the relentless winter weather, most of the the student body are staying in the castle for the holiday. You've done your Christmas shopping in Hogsmeade and found just the right gift for everyone on your list. Thinking of this, you wonder whether your parents have yet received the parcel you sent. Along with the gift and card, you enclosed a note asking them to look after the delivery owl for a few weeks until the storms have passed.
Your Scottish wildcat, Angus, is snoozing with his furry head flattening the bow you tied around the present for your very best friend. Frowning a little, you wonder if he did it intentionally - he tends to be jealous. Crossing your dormitory, you rouse him with a soft stroke. Caught up in your reading, you had forgotten the time. "Angus, it's time for the feast!" He stretches and yawns lazily, rolling over to rub his face against your shoes. "Come on, you! Get up, we're already late!" Smoothing your hair in the reflection of your wardrobe mirror, you think of the delicious meal waiting downstairs.
Before he can protest you scoop up Angus under your arm and carry him out of the dormitory. Once out in the corridor, you set him down and he pads along by your side, the aroma of pumpkin, cinnamon, and evergreens guiding you to the Great Hall. Pushing open the great oak doors, the sights, sounds, and smells overwhelm your senses. Angus launches himself into the room and sets off at a run for the high table, anxious to visit his friend, the groundskeeper, who is always very generous with the sweets that the castle house elves very sensibly do not include in Angus's own meals.
Smiling as he leaps onto the table at the far end of the room, you catch sight of your friend, who motions for you to take the seat beside him. The hall is filled with decorated firs and the enchanted ceiling is snowing overheard. The torches along the walls crackle cheerfully in their brackets and carols can be heard over the roar of the wind outside. This is your favorite time of year and this Christmas promises to be unforgettable.
