The Cattery, Hogwarts
The Cattery is a large, underground room next to the Kitchens in the basement of Hogwarts. The basement corridors are usually double ended, and on one end is the Kitchens and the other the Hufflepuff Commons. In a small stairwell next to the Kitchens is the stairwell to the Cattery. The Cattery, like the Owlery, is where the pet cats of students receive meals and can access the sandbox if they are not outdoor cats. Most of Hogwarts has cats wandering nearly always, though the Cattery shuts occupants in at 10:00pm curfew. Student cats are very loyal - almost accusatorily "familiar" - and most often sleep on the beds of their owners in the dormitories, finding their way upstairs and often waiting by the door of the Commons until a student will let in a small collection of cats.
However, when students are studying late, or when cats have been out hunting all night, the Cattery is the haven for pets. The Cattery basement is very warm, as the walls abut the numerous ovens and stoves of the neighboring kitchen, and there are endless playgrounds and toys for young kittens. Unsurprisingly due to the large number of owls and cats in residence, Hogwarts has never had a mice problem.
