Prefect’s Bathroom, 10:44pm
Harry knew he was running out of time; he didn’t need you and Hermione to tell him. You had agreed to venture out of the dormitory at night to the Prefect’s bathroom, Harry (as much as it pained him to admit) taking Cedric’s advice. Still not sure whether it was a wind up, you both crept under the Invisibilty Cloak and entered the bathroom.
You had to stop Harry from getting carried away with the multicoloured taps, anxious you might attract Filch or Mrs Norris with too much noise. But worse; Myrtle.
‘Hello, Harry,’ She cooed, and then snapped her head in your direction.
‘And who,’ her expression turned sour, ‘are you?’
‘I’m Harry’s friend.’ You said defiantly, and she scowled.
‘Well, Harry’s friend, aren’t you going to say hello?’ She whined.
‘Hello, Myrtle.’
It took longer than you had anticipated for the two of you to figure out what exactly Cedric meant, but when you did, it was enough to turn your stomachs. Harry bobbed up from the bath, his hair plastered across his face, gasping for air.
‘Listen!’ He said, breathlessly. You sat on your knees beside the bath, cocking your head slightly.
‘No, no - stick your head in!’ He said, wiping his eyes. You hesitated, but he gave you a pleading look and you gave in. Taking a deep breath in, you held on to the side of the bath, balancing yourself carefully just on the edge. The water was surprisingly pleasant, you should come here more often, you thought. Focusing hard, you strained your ears for whatever Harry had heard. Then it happened; voices. Not any voices; singing voices, women’s voices. There were words too, but you couldn’t work them out, probably because you weren’t close enough to the egg. You lifted yourself up, pushing your head out of your face.
‘Harry, that’s - brilliant! What’re they saying?’ Harry began to repeat the words back to you, and between you, you’d memoriesed the entire thing.
‘Let’s get back to the common room; we can write it down, sleep on it, and then in the morning we’ll have another look.’ You nodded, wringing your hair out.
