For the scene where Vernon is in his office, keep all channels active except for channel 8 for that nice boring office described in the book.
For the scene where Vernon goes to lunch, simply mute channels 1,2,& 3 and un-mute channel 8 for a wet cityscape and mysterious mumbling from the wizard crowd.
