Hogwarts Express, 11:41am
Ron and Hermione had left for the Prefects Carriage, leaving you and Harry looking for a compartment on your own. You could tell Harry was rather sour about the fact he wasn’t sitting with Ron, but seeing as he was in this constant foul mood you decided it best not to bring it up. The two of you found Ginny once again, who reluctantly entered the compartment with Neville and Loony Lovegood.
‘I know you,’ she said dreamily. ‘You went to the Yule Ball with Harry.’ She was looking over her upside down copy of The Quibbler.
‘That’s right,’ you said, politely. After talking to, or rather, at Harry for a while, Luna returned to her magazine. Ginny was biting her fingers in order to stop herself from giggling, and Neville was pretending to be very interested in the ceiling of the compartment.
‘I’m going to get a pasty. Does anyone want one ... ?’ Harry said, huffing slightly. You nodded, reaching into your bag for some coins. Harry shook his head and muttered a ‘don’t worry about it,’ before sliding the door open and then shut again. The compartment fell into silence again for what felt like five but was probably only one minute, before Ginny chirped,
‘I think I’ll go and help,’ and gave you a quick smirk and glanced at Luna before sliding the compartment door shut. You were now sat facing Neville and the back of Luna’s magazine. Neville was now scrutinising his Mimbulus Mimbletonia very closely.
‘I think it would have been better,’ you held your breath as Luna spoke again, her big blue eyes emerging from over the top of The Quibbler, ‘if you’d gone to the Yule Ball together, really.’ All the breath you’d been holding in suddenly came out quite quickly and unexpectedly in a form of a weird, startled sort of sigh. Neville swallowed, staring at his feet. Luna didn’t seem to notice this reaction however, and continued.
‘You’re a Leo, aren’t you Neville? That’s perfect then, I really think so.’ You weren’t sure whether this actually could get any worse. Then it did. A quick rapping on the compartment door made all three of your heads turn. Malfoy. The door slid open.
‘Where’s Potter?’ He hissed. Crabbe and Goyle were, of course, at his side. You couldn’t help but notice Malfoy’s prefect badge gleaming on his jumper.
‘Why do you care? Missing him?’
‘Just wanted to give you all a quick warning,’ he gave a sickening smile, ‘because I’m a prefect now. I’ve got special - ‘
‘Needs?’ Malfoy looked furious.
